Events and Programs
The Friends of SCNP provide lots of events that might bring understanding, joy, and a sense of contribution. If you have a Facebook account, we recommend you follow us there and sign up as “going” when you see an event you plan to attend.
If you would like to see some of our past events, we generally include a summary of the previous month’s events in our newsletter. You can find issues at our newsletter page – and you can subscribe for free.

Noticing and Journaling at the Preserve
August 22 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am

This is the first event in a planned monthly series. These events are part naturalist’s walk, part mindfulness and forest bathing, and part drawing and writing about what we have noticed. Not just a passing look, but more deeply noticing, paying attention to, and appreciating. We will look for plants, animals, and fungi. We’ll slow down and focus on all the things to notice in the woods, prairie openings, and ponds. And we will find time to journal about it with sketches or words.
This will happen on the 4th Saturday of each month, with the time varying according to season (we will start with 9:00am, but later in the year we could switch to afternoons, or occasionally walk in the evening). The activity is great for adults and for kids old enough to enjoy some periods of stillness and quiet and write or draw in a journal. We welcome beginners, folks who may be new to mindfulness, journaling, or nature study. And we will keep the groups small.
Meet in the parking lot. For August, bring mosquito repellent, sunscreen, and water.
