Events and Programs
The Friends of SCNP provide lots of events that might bring understanding, joy, and a sense of contribution. If you have a Facebook account, we recommend you follow us there and sign up as “going” when you see an event you plan to attend.
If you would like to see some of our past events, we generally include a summary of the previous month’s events in our newsletter. You can find issues at our newsletter page – and you can subscribe for free.
Noticing & Journaling at the Preserve
September 26 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am

Please check back as the date gets closer! This event might be postponed because of trail work & revision around the 26th.
These events are part naturalist’s walk, part mindfulness and forest bathing, and part drawing and writing about what we have noticed. Not just a passing look, but more deeply noticing, paying attention to, and appreciating (see Richard Louv’s latest book – Noticing). We will look for plants, animals, and fungi. We’ll slow down and focus on all the things to notice in the woods, prairie openings, and ponds. And we will find time to journal about it with sketches or words.
The activity is great for adults and for kids old enough to enjoy some periods of stillness and quiet and write or draw in a journal. We welcome beginners, folks who may be new to mindfulness, journaling, or nature study. And we will keep the groups small.
Meet in the parking lot and remember to bring water and materials for journaling – notebook, pen, or sketchbook, colored pencils, whatever is your preference.
