Events and Programs

The Friends of SCNP provide lots of events that might bring understanding, joy, and a sense of contribution. If you have a Facebook account, we recommend you follow us there and sign up as “going” when you see an event you plan to attend.

If you would like to see some of our past events, we generally include a summary of the previous month’s events in our newsletter. You can find issues at our newsletter page – and you can subscribe for free.

Frog Call Night

April 24 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm
Free

On this Friday night during the City Nature Challenge, we will take a walk at the preserve starting at 8pm and visit one or two of the ponds, listening for frog calls. And along the way, we can listen for owls, watch for spiders weaving webs, and be aware of anything else that is part of the community of living things.

We will be documenting what we find in iNaturalist, adding to the total number of observations at the preserve (already over two thousand species have been identified).

Please register as “going” by emailing us at events@friendsofscnp.org or at our Facebook page if you plan to join us, because we need to plan for how many will attend. Since we are starting at sunset, it will not be very dark at first but will get darker – so please remember to bring a flashlight or headlamp. Also remember that the trails are primitive and walking carefully is more important in low light.

The preserve is open until 10pm, so we will get back to the parking lot by about 9:30pm, giving us enough time to wrap up and leave.
